Behind the Cellar Door 2014
Sunday, March 2, 2014
Fans of Amador County wines will not be fed a steady diet of Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Merlot and other ‘mainstream’ varieties when they visit the historic region’s charming small family wineries. Instead, you will be treated to a cornucopia of old-vine zinfandels, syrahs, sangioveses, barberas, viogniers and other ‘off-the-beaten-track’ , which flourish in Amador’s sun-bathed hillside vineyards. These delicious, food-friendly wines will be showcased at the Amador Vintners’ annual “Behind the Cellar Door” weekend wine extravaganza on March 1st and 2nd , 2014 from 11 am to 4 pm. The event features tastings from barrel and bottle at 39 Amador County wineries, along with a diverse array of entertainment, demonstrations, tours and seminars. Library and vertical tastings, live music, gourmet foods, numerous winemaker dinners and perhaps Sunday brunch fill out the weekend’s festivities. NEW THIS YEAR is a kickoff Winemaker Reception - A benefit in partnership with American River College’s School of Culinary Arts. An intimate evening meeting with winemakers and winery owners, you’ll pair appetizers specially created by culinary students with Amador’s flagship wines. The reception takes place in the grand Terre d’Oro cellar among the barrel rows of aging wines on Friday evening February 28th, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Along with music from Herb Boxhorn the evening promises to be very special.
